About Me
- Desiree Johnson
- I created this blog to keep everyone updated about how things are going with my GAP year. I left the US on August 26th and returned May 4th. During GAP year I was taking classes in Spanish, theology, evangelism, and missions. I was working in a ministry called Metro, went to a Spanish church called Principe de Paz, and an English church called GGP. In the GAP year program I had the opportunity to be part of a weekly discipleship/small groups with the leaders in Costa Rica. God did great and mighty things in my life!! I am learned so much and I am falling more in love with Jesus, His word, and His people everyday! I would love it if you would continue to pray for me. Thanks for all of your support!

GGP where we are all about Jesus!
The Gathering Place which is also called GGP for Guadalupe Gathering Place is the name of the English church we attend on Sunday nights. John Lovell (our Bible teacher) is the pastor of the church. I look forward to going to GGP every week because it is the only place I can go outside of the villa and understand what people are saying. haha I love going to GGP because John always speaks the word of God with passion and truth and I also get to meet students from the nearby University, students studying abroad and living in host families, and ticos (this is the name given to refer to people from Costa Rica) that I can speak to in English! Also the worship is so intimate. We sing songs in English and in Spanish. Every sermon is also translated into Spanish for people that want to come to GGP, but don't know much English if any. Once a month a tico speaks in Spanish so that sermon is translated into English for those of us that don't know much Spanish which is really nice. GGP is a pretty small church with I would say about 50 people each week on average. We meet in a place that is rented out in Guadalupe Park. There are several ministries that GGP supports like a ministry that a family in our church does. This family visits several orphanages brings games for the kids, visits them every other week, and shares a Bible story with them. There is also another ministry called LightForce International (http://www.lightforceintl.com/) that a couple in our church leads which helps reach out to people in the commercial sex industry in the San Jose area. In Costa Rica this ministry is difficult since it is legal to be a prostitute. I have no negative things to say about GGP. I love my church so much and I wish you all could come and visit. You may not be able to come to Costa Rica, but you can listen to the sermons online at http://ggatheringplace.com/. There you can also find more information about GGP their mission, the ministries they are involved in, and more. You can also go to https://www.facebook.com/GuadalupeGatheringPlace for more info and I think you should like their page as well. I completely support GGP and I would love it if you would too! Prayers are always great!
